Wolverhampton Wanderers: Vitor Pereira ends his wait to manage in the Premier League

New Wolves coach Vitor Pereira says he has been chasing his Premier League dream for 14 years.

The Portuguese moved Molineux on an 18-month deal on Thursday ending his wait to work in England.

Pereira, who has come close to joining Everton on several occasions since 2010, achieved his goal of managing the Premier League this week when he replaced Gary O’Neil at Wolves, his 10th club in the past 11 years.

“The last 14 years of my life, my goal was to come to England,” he said, after leaving Saudi Al-Shabab. “To compete with the best coaches, this is the seat I want to have, I want to be in this league to compete, to challenge myself and I am ready.

“I remember the first step abroad (Portugal) was in Saudi Arabia (Al-Ahli) 14 years ago. When I left Porto, my goal was an English club.

“I had a meeting at that time to come to England but after the prince knocked on the door and persuaded me, I did not go to England. I never thought I would go to Saudi.

“I had approaches from English clubs (before) but Wolves took a step forward to finish.”

Pereira takes over with Wolves second bottom and five points behind 17th-placed Leicester, who they face at the King Power Stadium on Sunday (14:00 GMT).
