Wimbledon champion Max Purcell has been temporarily suspended after an anti-doping violation

Two-time Grand Slam doubles champion Max Purcell has been temporarily suspended after admitting to an anti-doping rule violation.

The 26-year-old voluntarily took the suspension after admitting to breaching the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s (ITIA) anti-doping rules related to the “use of prohibited methods”.

The Australians, who won 2022 Wimbledon doubles championship with Matthew Ebdenis now temporarily prohibited from playing, coaching or attending any tennis events.

ITIA did not specify how long Purcell’s ban will last but it is effective December 12, 2024.

“Time served in the interim suspension will count towards any future sanctions,” ITIA said

The temporary suspension could rule Purcell out of January’s Australian Open in Melbourne, which starts on January 12.

Tennis Australia said the ITIA had confirmed the breach was related to a prohibited method “rather than the presence of a prohibited substance”.
