The NFL disapproved of the hit by Houston Texans rookie Kellen Bullock that hospitalized Miami Dolphins wide receiver Grant DuBois.
The league on Saturday announced $5,916 in fines to Texans safeties, one for the first-quarter hit against the Dolphins and one for the DuBose hit. Both were for unnecessary roughness, the first defined as “use of a helmet” and the second for “hitting a defenseless player”.
The latter hit, which was immediately flagged, resulted in DuBose being ejected from the game motionless and secured on a stretcher.
DuBose was later hospitalized, but was reported to have no movement in all parts. Dolphin He ended his season earlier this week by being placed on injured reserve..
After the game, Bullock SAid was not concerned about discipline from the NFL Because he didn’t mean to hurt DuBose:
“It was never my intention to go out there and not hurt anybody,” Bullock said. “That’s not our intention. Prayers for him and his family. I hope he’s OK. I just saw the ball and I was just breaking down on the ball. It’s just one of those types of plays. There is one.”
The Texans selected Bullock in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, selecting him after a first-team All-Pac-12 season with USC. Through 14 career games, he has 44 combined tackles, 10 passes defensed and five interceptions for a Texans defense that ranks fourth in total defense and second in turnovers.
