The Charity Shield was founded in 1908 as a way to raise money for charity.
However, the match – which has been a curtain for the new Premier League season – was later named after the Social Shield when the football association was found did not meet the requirements of the charity law.
In 2002, the Charity Commission decided that the FA failed to specify the amount of money that went on for aid, and the name was changed as a result.
However, the money raised from the game is still distributed to community programs and aid across the UK.
The inauguration match was played at Stamford Bridge, but in 1974 at that time the F -F -Ted Croker suggested should be played in Wembley – and that is the venue since then.
The match focuses on last season’s Premier League champions and the FA Cup winners, or league runners if the team won twice.
On Sunday, Crystal Palace – who have never played in Social Shield before – face 16 Liverpool winners.
