Monza have sacked manager Alessandro Nesta with the club at the bottom of the Serie A table.
The former Italy defender saw his team suffer a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Juventus on Sunday in what was to be his last game in charge.
Monza have won just once in 17 league games this season and are five points from safety.
Nesta, who played as a central defender for clubs including AC Milan and Lazio, took over as coach of Monza before the start of the season.
But his first managerial role in Serie A ended with Monza suffering a third straight defeat at the weekend, extending their unbeaten run to nine games.
“The club thanks the coach for what he has done so far and wishes him the best for the future,” Monza said in a statement.
Having won the 2006 World Cup with Italy, Nesta made his managerial debut with Miami FC in 2015 before playing with Italian lower division teams Perugia, Frosinone and Reggiana.
Monza face Parma on Saturday, with their rivals five points clear in 16th place.
