Rangers: Philippe Clement for cup final penalty and Willie Collum

Manager Philippe Clement has said that Rangers “do not need motivation due to negligence” while asking his players to forget the decision of the League Cup final.

The Scottish Football Association’s head of refereeing operations Willie Collum said the video assistant referees made a “very poor decision” and “unacceptable” not to award Rangers a penalty against Celtic.

The Ibrox side, who lost on penalties after a 3-3 draw, were awarded a free-kick for pulling down Vaclav Cerny which started outside the Celtic penalty area but continued, but VAR did not intervene.

However Clement says Rangers must “put that to bed in our heads and stop thinking about it” as they prepare to face Dundee in the Premier League on Saturday.

“You can’t keep thinking about that. We need to focus now and take the three points. And not look back,” said the Belgian, whose team is 11 points behind league leaders Celtic.

“This time, what happened, will remain for the rest of our lives, in the back of our heads. But we need to focus now on what is now.

“We don’t need motivation from indolence. We want to win games and win titles.

“We were the team that created the most chances in the game and we were the team that should have had a penalty. That’s a lot in a cup final – you usually win in the end.”
