Open Mexico: Tien Stuns World Number Two Qualification Student Alexander Zverev

Alexander Zverev number two world experienced a surprising early surprise from Mexico Open with a straight defeat against Tien Teenagers’ qualifying students.

Australian Open Finalist Zverev, the top seed in Acapulco, placed a performance full of mistakes with mistakes when American Tien won 6-3 6-4.

Tien, 19, defeated England Cameron Norrie in the previous round and will face Czech Tomas Machac in the quarter -finals.

“I just went there and tried to control my court,” said Tien.

“Obviously I know it will be a difficult partner. To come great … I think only focus on what I can control and keep cool as best as possible I really take me far away.”

Tien is the youngest American man who recorded victory against the top three of the three of Andy Roddick in 2001.

He has enjoyed a few memorable months, reaching the final in the next ATP Gen final in December before reaching the fourth round at the Australian Open in January.

Zverev is one of the six seeds coming out of the competition in the second half.

Casper Ruud, Tommy Paul and Holger Rune were all pulled out because of the stomach lice, while Ben Shelton and Frances Tafoe were beaten by David Goffin and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina each.

Ruud finished runner-up at the ATP 500 event in 2024 but the second seed did not reach the court for his meeting against local favorite Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez.

“I hope to overcome this stomach disease that appears yesterday,” Ruud said on Instagram.

“Hoping to get back stronger in a few days and return here to Mexico next year.”

Rune, fourth seed, started the match against Brandon Nakashima but had to retire when 3-0 was left behind in the first set.

“Angry and very sad at the same time. Poisoning food and can’t play today,” Rune said at X.

“One of my favorite places is Mexico and I like this tournament. It’s not what I want.”
