‘No quick fix’ as Martin faces ranger’s common problems

Saturday’s sketch was great for Ranger fans considering Dundee arrived and started poorly for their season to push their new coach, former Ranger defender Steven Pressley.

Dundee, who won only two scoring trials in their first opening victory at Hibernian home, had not hit Ranger in their last 17 meetings and had lost their recent Ibrox visits.

The previous style passed under Martin meant half-John Souttar tried to pass 131 in this game, the highest players in the opening of the two weekends, the team as a whole tried 709, again on any team, and their 20 goals were high as well.

However, they still relied on the penalty for saving a draw and have now failed to win both of their opening matches for the first time since 1989.

Martin was able to understand the reaction of home support.

“Fans have missed the success they want for a long time, so I understand the frustration,” he said. “I didn’t grow up too high on Tuesday, so we won’t be too low today.

“We are in action now on this club where something needed to change.

“Ownership has changed, there are new teaching staff, there are new players, there is a new way to live in the gym – well, every day, about the standards and what is expected in this ball club. So it’s not a quick solution and this is not me from making excuses.

“I think we are changing the manager from year to year and nothing changes.

“So now it’s about changing the culture and feelings of the club day and day. That will end up in good results. A good process, good people, will always end up in good results. But maybe it’s not as fast as everyone wants.”
