Netflix has acquired the rights to broadcast live broadcasts of the 2027 and 2031 Women’s World Cups in the United States.
The deal, announced by world soccer governing body Fifa on Friday, is the first time Netflix has acquired the live rights to a sporting event in its entirety.
“As a popular brand and a new long-term partner of Fifa, Netflix has shown a high level of commitment to promoting women’s football,” said Fifa president Gianni Infantino.
The 2027 World Cup will be held in Brazil. The host of the 2031 tournament has not been confirmed, although in England, a joint bid involving the other confederations of Great Britain and the United States have all been suggested as potential bidders.
