Mike McCarthy probably has no idea what his future holds as he is in the final year of his contract with the Cowboys.
Do the Cowboys want him back? Does he want to come back?
Owner Jerry Jones has heaped praise on McCarthy for his work in winning four of the last five games. The Cowboys knew they were out of playoff contention on Sunday when they beat the Bucs 26-24.
On Tuesday, Jones announced that he wanted McCarthy back.
“I can’t tell you how proud I am of the coaching staff led by Mike McCarthy, the leadership of this team and these young players,” Jones said via June on 105.3 The Fan. Matchota of TheAthletic.com. “They’re just growing by leaps and bounds mentally and physically. (It) makes me think we have a great future ahead of us.”
Later in the day, McCarthy was asked if he was willing to bring a resolution on his status.
“I believe in time and place, and this is not the time or place for me to discuss that,” McCarthy said, via ESPN’s AdWorder. “Really, I’m more concerned about the staff. They’re more concerned for me, because change is something that happens all the time in our league. It’s part of this industry. And I understand that. I I’m at a different point. I’m more focused on them, and I know what’s in front of us. Everyone just stays on course for me.”
The Cowboys close out the season against the Eagles and Commanders.
