Former Northern Ireland captain Marissa Callaghan has announced his retirement from international football.
Callaghan won 91 hats and led Northern Ireland to the Euro 2022 finals – the first women’s competition in the country.
Cliftonville’s central midfielder has not appeared in Northern Ireland after being left out of the Tanya Oxtoby squad for the October 2025 game against Croatia.
Callaghan’s last hat came against Malta in April, a month before stopping Northern Ireland’s writing.
He made his debt in 2010 against Scotland and wore his first place against Georgia in 2016 – the game scored two international goals.
“Keeping a green jersey is a feeling you can’t explain, and it doesn’t matter if it’s a friendly game, a game at the euro or a competitive game,” Callaghan told The Ireland FA.
“When you go to the field and cross that white line, it’s just a feeling of great pride. It’s a good feeling and I’m very grateful that I had to do it 91 times.”
