Not that Amorim apportions the blame.
“The responsibility is on me, not Carlos,” he said.
“We are a team in good times and bad times. We have a way of doing things. We are working on it and we are going to improve it. But we didn’t lose because of set pieces. We lost because we created more chances and didn’t score.”
Speaking to Match of the Day, Martinez put it more clearly.
“We are very angry with this kind of situation,” said the Argentine defender. “We have to work on putting the pieces together.
“I have a lot of faith in this team and the staff. If they don’t score their first goal from set-pieces then it’s a completely different game.”
Amorim is plagued by a lack of quality.
The Portuguese trusted Tyrell Malacia at left-back, but took the Dutchman off at half-time after watching him give the ball away cheaply too often and offer nothing going forward.
Diogo Dalot switched sides, but his one-goal threat lacked conviction. Noussair Mazraoui moved to left-back from his position in a three-man defence, but was put on Justin Kluivert’s stack which allowed the forward to score Bournemouth’s second goal from the penalty spot.
Only striker, captain Bruno Fernandes was a threat in Bournemouth’s goal, with Marcus Rashford missing for the third game in a row, although he was at Old Trafford to watch the sad events unfold.
“It depends, we’ll see,” said Amorim when asked if the England forward could be in contention for the Boxing Day trip to Wolves.
