Social Shield is usually played between the Premier League winners and the FA Cup winners

Premier League champions Liverpool are taking the winners of the FA Crystal Palace in the Social Shield – but would it succeed in Wembley on Sunday showing a successful season ahead?

Only one of the 14 winners of the last season of the season has continued to lift the Premier League trophy at the end of the campaign.

And what about goals?

BBC Sport is causing a number of recent communities or charity Shields to see what we can learn.

Is it? Social Shield winners usually win the Premier League?

The answer to this question is surprising no.

In the Premier League, only eight of the 33 Charity or Social Shield winners continue to win the crown.

And five of them occurred in the six -year spell from 2005 to 2010.

Manchester City, in 2019, were the last team to do so – and before that it was Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United in 2011.

In fact, since 1992 teams that lose the Social Shield have won more league titles that season – 10 overall, as well as City for three consecutive years between 2021 and 2023.

Last year City beat Manchester United opponents to win the curtain, but ended up having their worst season since 2016-17.

Some 45 percent of the time (15/33) winners of the next Premier League season were not involved in the Social Shield.

And 55% of the time (18/33) Shield’s winners have finished over the lost in the league that season.

10 times the two teams have finished the top two in the Premier League – with the four times the winners of Shield and lost as runners.

Is it? Premier League winners usually win the Social Shield?

Another question is how many societies are defeated by last season’s Premier League winners.

The answer is 18 times out of 33 – so 55%.

But the reason for hope for Crystal Palace is that the FA Cup winners have won seven of the last 11 shields, something that happened only five times in the last 22 years.

And three times in the Premier League, neither the winners of the league nor the Cup have not won.

Arsenal (1999 and 2023) and Manchester United (2010) graduated as Premier League runners and beat the winners twice in the game.

Is it? Do the goals of the Social Shield continue to have good seasons?

Cole Palmer’s successful season came after its Shield’s 2023 SHIELD goal – with different clubs

This is a bit of a mixed bag.

In 2023 Cole Palmer was given to Manchester City in their match against Arsenal (a match that they would continue to lose the penalty after equalizing during the LEANDRO Trossard injury).

He would continue to score 22 Premier League goals and be named as the youngest player of the season … for Chelsea, having joined them for 42.5m pounds.

Last season, Darwin Nunez scored his first goal for Liverpool – and Erling Haaland failed to look at his city bow.

That led to a post -match discussion about Nunez looking for the best player.

However, Haaland continued with 52 goals that season, with Nunez getting only 15.

Kelechi Iheanacho only scored four Premier League goals after the Shield winner of the 2021 community.

But back in 2019 Shield’s Raheem Sterling strike against City against the former Liverpool club started the most productive season of his career (31 goals).
