The son of former Aberdeen and Falkirk striker Lee Miller has already appeared 76 seniors.
He was almost last season when Motherwell finished eighth in the Scottish partnership, scoring four goals in 41 matches and scoring his first two hats in Scotland.
Asked about Miller’s absence on Saturday, Askou said: “Yes, it was the last phone and everything was considered.
“It’s no secret that there are things going on behind. We know he’s been out for four weeks.
“How are you willing to take the risks to take a player like him in that situation? The decision is that we removed him.”
