Josh Kerr confirms the sights set on the Glasgow Commonwealth Games

Josh Kerr says he plans “very special” Commonwealth games after confirming that he intends to race in Glasgow next summer.

The Olympic silver medalist and the current Edinburg World Champion has revealed that it is aiming for a home event on the back of the coast until the 5000 m victory at the British Athletics Championships.

Last week, he marked one year to play for games that returned to Scotland, 11 years after the city last hosted the event.

“Of course, Commonwealth is in my plans and in mind for next year,” Kerr said.

“The races for the Scotland team would be a big deal for me and I am very fortunate for the Commonwealth Games to come again in the UK. It will be in Glasgow and this can be very special.

“This is a big part of my 2026 calendar and I’ll be looking forward to it. Europeans are in Birmingham a few weeks later.”

The 28-year-old is currently preparing for his 1500-meter title at the World Cup in September.

And Kerr, who has mitigated to win over the weekend, says he wants a better display of himself three years ago at the games of next year compared to Birmingham.

The Scot ended in 1500 m in 12th place and said: “Last time, here in Birmingham, it was not a fantastic experience or effort from me – there were many reasons for the summer of 2022.

“But my job is to perform consistently – and do it for anyone who looks and for myself.”
