Jannik Sinner tennis doping case: Will the men’s world number one be banned? Can he miss out on a Grand Slam title?

Italy’s Jannik Sinner is enjoying the most successful – and eventful – season of his career, dominating the men’s game while investigations into two failed doping tests continue.

Defending Australian Open and US Open champion, who won seventh title of the season in Shanghai on Sunday, tested positive for clostebol in March.

An independent panel, whose case was brought by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), accepted that “no fault or negligence” was attached to 23-year-old Sinner.

It said the world number one had given a “credible” explanation and he could continue playing.

But the ruling that Sinner did nothing wrong has been challenged by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada), which has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).

No date has been set for the hearing.

“Whatever happens, I just hope that this problem can be resolved as soon as possible,” said 24-time major champion Novak Djokovic.

“This case does nothing to help our sport.”
