Tottenham midfielder James Maddison has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury and is expected to miss most of the season.
Sources have told BBC Sport that Maddison will have performed surgery and will be a long -term person when he begins his recovery program.
The 28 -year -old suffered an injury in an early game of the season against Newcastle in South Korea last weekend.
Manager Thomas Frank confirmed after the match that Maddison had injured the same knee that dominated him from the final Europa League victory over Manchester United in May.
Since returning from Asia on Monday, Maddison has passed tests in recent days to determine the severity of the injury.
The earlier fear was that Maddison had suffered a ligament injury and such anxiety was now found.
