That desire to take chances in more dangerous areas doesn’t seem to be slowing down Jesus’ all-round game – certainly not against Palace.
A quick look at the striker’s touch map shows he played his part in all areas of the pitch, with 12 of his 40 touches coming inside his own half.
Among Arsenal players, only Martinelli has been involved in more than Jesus’ 13 at Selhurst Park, but the latter won more – six – than any of his colleagues.
As well as covering less than 10 miles, Jesus also ran more runs – 345 – than any other Gunners player.
As Arteta’s side enter one of the busiest periods of the season, Jesus seems to have found the perfect middle ground between the fox in the box and the tireless forward, ready to cover every leaf to help his team’s cause.
If he can keep it up, Palace are unlikely to be the only club to suffer at his hands in the coming weeks and months.
“I always work hard,” said Jesus. “When a player plays it’s always different, (in terms of) confidence and fitness.
“I’m happy to get more opportunities. I’m trying to keep my mind strong and help the team.
“I’m happy to be back scoring. I want to keep scoring.”
