The Vegas Golden Knights have a great chance to build on the lead in the Pacific Division with several games against weaker opponents.
Seven of the Golden Knights’ next eight games will come against teams with losing records. The team they play with the winningest record is the Calgary Flames.
The Golden Knights return from their short holiday break with a battle against the San Jose Sharks on the road. After Friday’s game, the Golden Knights will play four home games in a row against the Flames, Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers and Buffalo Sabres.
The Golden Knights will return to the road to face the Sharks before returning to T-Mobile Arena to host the New York Islanders and New York Rangers. Of the eight teams played by the Golden Knights, six are in the bottom 10, while the Flyers are in one of the bottom 10.
Aside from playing great hockey, the Golden Knights’ mindset is focused, clear and united. Each game going into the game, you know they are the better team and have more confidence. They have shown the ability to outrun their opponents, shut down and come back when needed.
The Golden Knights were able to go into games knowing that their defensive core would outscore their opponents, their best players, Jack Eichel and Mark Stone, would outscore their opponents’ best players and that their scoring would keep them in games when called upon.
The Golden Knights are getting contributions from up and down the roster and have put themselves in a great position to enter a long stretch before the midway point of the season. There is still a lot of hockey to be played, but what the Golden Knights have shown through their first 34 games is a good sign.
