Going into the 3rd period, the Blue Jackets seemed to be in control. Boy, did he change fast.
In less than two minutes, the Flyers scored twice to tie the game in the third. From there, both teams will score two goals each to send the game to overtime. The comeback goal for the Jackets came with just over a minute left in the game. For the third time in two games, they gave up a 6-on-5 draw with the opposing goalie. It didn’t hurt New Jersey too much, but it will ultimately cost them a game against Philly. This needs to be resolved and cleaned up ASAP if this team wants to win games.
The Jackets controlled most of the overtime period. Although they only had one shot, it seemed like the Jackets had the puck the entire time. But all it took was one mistake by CBJ for the puck to end up the other way. And it happened – fast. Owen Tippett made a different shot past Elvis Merzļikins for his 4th point of the night to send the Jackets home with a loss. The OT loss is their 3rd OT loss in six games. This team can’t seem to win in overtime.
The game had a scary moment when star tight end Zach Werenski went down the wrong way and hit his knee on the boards. Eventually he would be helped on the ice to the dressing room. He came back but was caught on video waving and shaking his knee. Head coach Dean Evason said in the post game about Werenski, “Hopefully he’s not going to be involved now because he was at the end of overtime. Obviously, he’s a big part of our hockey club.”
