EDMONTON — They don’t ask how, just how many.
Edmonton Oilers fans may be wondering if there is any chance of them scoring goals in the NHL. If the recent run of some hope is to be taken seriously, there may be something that hasn’t come out yet.
Fans are eagerly awaiting Matt Savoie’s arrival in the NHL. While it seems unlikely that it will happen this year (although, never say never), he’s not the only person who could be happy in Bakersfield.
In his second season with the Bakersfield Condors, Matvey Petrov overcomes a slow start to become a reliable team attack. Despite opening the season with two points in the first two games, he would only record one assist over the next nine contests.
Now this is old news because Petrov’s case is starting to blossom.
In his last five games, the young Russian player has scored six goals, registering at least one goal in each game. Three of those goals were game-winning goals. In these five games, he also has 11 shots.
Now that he has it 12 points in 24 gameshe is only two points shy of his tally last season. In 53 games last year, he recorded nine goals and five assists while firing 71 shots on net.
This should give Oilers fans reason to be optimistic about his development. Considering he’s a sixth-round draft pick, it would be a huge win for the organization if he becomes an NHL player at any position.
Time will tell on the 21 year old. Hopefully, for the sake of the fans, Petrov will continue to score as many goals as possible.
