Matt Rempe received an eight-game suspension for his hit on Miro Heiskanen.
The 23-year-old will forfeit $80,000 in salary as a result of his suspension, according to TSN’s Chris Johnston.
The incident happened during the third period of the game between the New York Rangers and the Dallas Stars on Friday night.
The puck was already off Heiskanen’s stick, but Rempe came flying in with an elbow to Heiskanen’s head.
Rempe was ejected from the game following the hit, marking his fourth ejection in 22 NHL games.
The NHL’s Department of Player Safety called the chant “boarding/elbowing.” A hearing between the NHL’s Department of Player Safety and Rempe took place on Sunday.
