English golfer Marco Penge has been banned by the DP World Tour for betting on several events.
However, the tour said the 26-year-old did not bet on himself or the tournaments he participated in.
It led the tour’s disciplinary panel to find the integrity of the events in which Penge bet “was not complied with”.
Penge, who is completing his first full year on tour based in Europe, received a three-month ban – one month suspended for a year.
He was also fined £2,000.
Penge retained his DP World Tour title at the final regular season event of last season – after a nervous week at the Genesis Championship in South Korea.
Knowing that he must decide accordingly preserve his playing rights, Penge sank the putt five feet to make the weekend cut and went on to finish 22nd.
He scored enough points to finish 110th in the standings, which means he saved his card by only four places.
Penge began his suspension on December 13, meaning he could return to action from mid-February.
