Southampton are close to appointing Ivan Juric as their new manager

Southampton are close to appointing Ivan Juric as their manager on an 18-month deal.

The Croat will replace Russell Martin, who was fired by the Saints Sunday after being beaten 5-0 by Tottenham.

Juric, 49, was the most recent manager of Roma, who fired him in November after only 12 matches as a manager.

The Southampton job would mark Juric’s first managerial role outside of Italy.

His contract is said to include a summer break clause.

Club sources say Juric was one of two options in the frame as a replacement for Ralph Hasenhuttl when Nathan Jones was appointed in November 2022.

The club is said to be in need of a manager who can bring strength and discipline to the team after the bad defeat by Spurs.

It is highly likely that Juric will be in the post for this weekend’s match at Fulham on Sunday (14:00 GMT).

Southampton are bottom of the Premier League table, nine points from safety, having picked up just one win so far this season.
