Former Olympic champion Belinda Bencic has continued its sensational form since returning from pregnancy leave by beating Coco Gauff to reach the quarter -finals of Wells India.
Bencic, who gave birth to his daughter Bella last April, fought hard to win 3-6 6-3 6-4 against the third American Seed Gauff.
The 28 -year -old Swiss player has won 17 out of 21 matches since making him return to the WTA Tour this season.
Last month he won the Abu Dhabi Open title only 10 months after the arrival of his first child.
After defeating Gauff, Bencic said being a mother had given a new perspective on her career and enabled her to play with more freedom.
“I always tell myself that it doesn’t matter if I win this match, I have won in life,” he said in an interview on the field.
“I have a beautiful family, I’m very blessed.”

Unlimited when he returned to the second level WTA Challenger tour in October, the 2020 Olympic gold medalist will return to the top 50 of the world next week.
Beating Gauff secured his second victory over the top five in 2025, after defeating the 2022 wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in the semifinals of Abu Dhabi.
Bencic is only the sixth Wildcard who has reached the last eight women in Indian Wells since the tournament began in 1989.
He will then face the Australian Open champion Madison Keys or Wimbledon Donna Vekic semifinalis – a close friend of Bencic.
