Gout Gout: a 16-year-old from Australia broke the 200m record 20.04 seconds during the school championship

Australian teenage sensation Gout Gout entered the record books when she became the fastest 16-year-old in history over 200m.

He ran the distance in 20.04 seconds at the Australian Schools’ Championships in Brisbane on Saturday, breaking the national record set by Peter Norman when he won silver at the 1968 Olympics.

It’s gout time the fastest ever by a 16-year-old , externaland the second-fastest under-18 athlete – behind Erriyon Knighton, who clocked 19.84 in 2021 as a 17-year-old.

“It’s pretty crazy,” Gout said.

“I can’t process it right now, but I think I’ll think about it tonight when I go to bed. These are adults. And I’m just a kid and I’m leading them (down).

“I was chasing that record, but I didn’t think it would come this year. I thought it might come next year, the year after that.”

Gout, who turns 17 later this month, was the fourth-fastest 100m by an Australian on Friday with a time of 10.04.

At 6ft 2in, Gout has drawn comparisons to Jamaican legend Usain Bolt for his speed and way of running.

Australia’s ABC said Gout will travel to the US next month to train with Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles.

Gout, the son of migrants from war-torn South Sudan, lives in the Brisbane suburb of Ipswich.

The Australian city will host the Olympics in 2032, when Gout will be 24 years old.
