Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the European Cross Country Championships in Turkey, winning the senior men’s title for the third time in four years.
The 24-year-old Olympic 5,000m champion opted out of the event last year but reclaimed his crown with a dominant performance at Dokuma Park in Antalya.
He pulled away from the field in the final lap to win in 22 minutes 16 seconds, eight seconds ahead of Italy’s Yemaneberhan Crippa in second, while Spain’s Thierry Ndikumwenayo was third.
Rory Leonard was the first Brit across the line in ninth place, helping to take bronze in the men’s team overall.
Kate Axford was tenth to help the British team win silver in the senior women’s event, which was won by Italy’s Nadia Battocletti, while Great Britain and Northern Ireland won bronze in the opening medley relay.
Will Barnicoat defended his Under 23 Men’s title to finish in front Irishman Nicholas Griggsteammate David Stone was third.
Great Britain’s Phoebe Anderson won the women’s under-23 title, while Innes FitzGerald and Jess Bailey won gold and silver respectively in the women’s under-20 event, with George Couttie finishing second in the men’s under-20 event.
