Former number one world Venus Williams has rejected Wildcard for the Indian Wells tournament next month.
The organizer said last week the 44 -year -old player was invited but the single champion Grand Slam seven times had not yet taken it.
“Our team has been told that Venus did not accept Wildcard this year,” the event was posted on X in a statement associated with the Director of the Tournament Tommy Haas.
“We hope the best Venus and hope to see it again in the Indian well in the future.”
Williams has fallen to 974 in the world and has not played the WTA tour level match since losing in the first round of Miami Open last March.
He previously told Tennisweekly Podcast that he would not return to the Indian Wells Tournament, which took place from 2-16 March.
“I didn’t play – I will be abroad. I will not be here,” he said.
