Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis has been named the World Sports Star of 2024 by BBC Sports Personality.
Duplantis – better known as Mondo – is considered the greatest pole vaulter of all time and enjoyed another record year in 2024.
25 year old retained the Olympic title in Paris – became the first consecutive men’s pole vault champion since the 1950s.
In doing so, he broke both the Olympic and world records – the latter for the ninth time in his career, and for the second time this year.
Later in August, he broke the world record again, set a new record of 6.26 m at the Diamond League meeting in Silesiaand in 2024 he also won his second indoor world title and third European gold.
“I am so honored to win the World Sports Personality of the Year award,” Duplantis told BBC One.
“I’m very sorry I couldn’t be there. I’m back in the US and training for the upcoming season.
“This award really means a lot to me.”
