Scottish Tennis Open Tour Final: Ewen Lumsden & Mia Wainwright win the final


Ewen Lumsden of Scotland and 17-year-old Mia Wainwright of England emerged victorious in the first Tennis Scotland Open Tour final broadcast live on BBC Scotland.

Lumsden, ranked 601st in the world, avenged last year’s defeat in the final by Hamish Stewart (520) 7-5 3-6 7-5 to complete the doubles title after teaming up with former world number 44 Jonny O’Mara to take over the men’s doubles title.

Defending top seed Stewart earlier beat British third seed and 25-year-old partner Liam Hignett 6-3 6-4 in the semi-finals, while second seed Lumsden beat his 24-year-old partner James MacKinlay 6-0 6-1.

Nottingham’s Wainwright eventually beat Newcastle’s 27-year-old top seed Emma Wilson 7-6 6-2 in the women’s final.

Both achieved easy wins in the semifinals.

Wainwright, ranked 595th in the world junior rankings, beat fellow 17-year-old Aimee Knowles, also of Northumberland, 6-2, 6-0.

Wilson, ranked 983rd on the senior tour and entering the tournament as a wild card, won 6-0, 6-1 against 16-year-old Teodora Prisadnikova of Northumberland, who was last year’s runner-up.
