Rams takeaways: Improved offensive line margin in win over Jets

What we learned from the victory that extended the Rams’ winning streak to four games and improved their record to 9-6:

Matthew Stafford won the duel with Aaron Rodgers.

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford Threw the go-ahead touchdown pass. Tyler Higbee in the fourth quarter and improved his record against Aaron Rogers From 5-13.

Stafford completed 14 of 19 passes for 110 yards and one touchdown, with one interception.

In the second quarter, safety Tony Adams picked off a pass. The turnover ended Stafford’s career-best five games without an interception.

“I thought Matthew was effective in the pass game,” coach Sean McVay said.

Stafford, a 16th-year pro, has passed for 20 touchdowns, with eight interceptions.

Rodgers completed 28 of 42 passes for 256 yards and a touchdown. He threw a fumble that led to Stafford’s touchdown pass to Higby.

The offensive line continues to play solid.

For the third game in a row, The rams The offensive line didn’t give up a sack.

Left tackle Alaric Jackson, left guard Steve Avila, center Beaux Lemmer, right guard Kevin Dotson and right tackle Rob Hevinstein kept Stafford upright and cleared the way for Karin Williams to gain 122 yards on 23 carries.

Williams rushed for more than 100 yards for the second straight game.

“Every time he steps on the grass, he’s a guy who loves to compete,” Stafford said. “We have a lot of guys in this offense that like to do it that way. He’s fun to be around, but when he’s rolling and cooking like he was today, man, it’s a lot of fun.”

The Rams’ defense is tough on fourth downs.

Rams linebacker Omar Speights and cornerbacks Ahkilo Witherspoon and Darris Williams made huge plays that thwarted the Jets’ fourth-down efforts.

In the second quarter, Speights stopped running back Bracehall for no gain, setting up Williams’ touchdown run.

In the third quarter, Witherspoon broke up a pass intended for Deonte Adams in the end zone, giving the Rams the ball for a drive that ended with a field goal.

Darris Williams broke up a pass in the fourth quarter that set up another field goal.

Cooper Cope made the catch again.

Receiver Cooper Cope bounced back from a catchless performance against the San Francisco 49ers against the Jets with three catches for 24 yards.

Poka Naqua caught eight passes for 56 yards. Toto Atwell made a catch for 12 yards and Higby’s lone catch led to the go-ahead touchdown.

Receiver DeMarcus Robinson did not have a catch for the second straight game.

Joshua Carty returns the missed PAT

Rams kicker Joshua Carty’s day didn’t start well.

After a Rams touchdown to tie the score at 6-6, Carty missed the extra point attempt.

But Carty came back and made field goals of 38 and 45 yards in the fourth quarter.

“It was great for Josh Carty to respond the way he did,” McVay said.

Carty made 23 of 28 field goal attempts and 29 of 33 extra points.
