Former Canadiens on Team Canada’s Spengler Cup Roster

There may not be any Montreal Canadiens prospects wearing a Team Canada jersey at the World Junior Championship, but there will be a few former ones wearing it at the 2024 Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland when it starts on December 26.

Three former Canadiens full-time players will be part of the team along with another player who played in this organization but never wore the Sainte-Flanelle. 32-year-old forward Logan Shaw played his junior hockey in the QJMHL, spending part of two seasons with the Quebec Remparts and co-captain with Patrick Roy’s coaching staff.

He was drafted in the third round of the 2011 draft by the Florida Panthers, but never really established himself as an NHLer. In 2017-18, he played in 30 games with the Canadiens, posting two goals and four assists. He has been in the AHL for the past four seasons and currently plays for the Toronto Marlies.

Next in left is 33-year-old Daniel Carr who played 94 games with the Canadiens over three seasons. In total he played 117 NHL games and wore the Vegas Golden Knights, Nashville Predators and Washington Capitals colors picking up 16 goals and 21 assists for 37 points. He now plies his trade with Lugano in the Swiss league.

Most Canadiens fans will probably be more familiar with Charles Hudon who was drafted by the Habs in the fifth round of the 2012 draft. He played a total of 125 matches with the Tricolore. He also played 9 games for the Colorado Avalanche giving him a total of 134 games in the NHL where he collected 41 points.

As for center Phillipe Maillet, he was signed by the organization to a one-year deal in July 2023 but spent the entire season in the AHL with the Laval Rocket putting up 53 points in 67 games.

Meanwhile, defenseman Noel Hoefenmayer was recently acquired by the organization in return for Jacob Perreault. He’s only played two games with the Rockets so far and has gotten some help.

Another protector, Madison Bowey played 35 games with the Rockets back in 2022-23 collecting 13 points in the process.

There you have it, six members of the Canadiens organization at the same time will be trying to take the Spengler Cup in Switzerland.
