Teams winning games in overtime have become more common since the NHL switched to a 3-on-3 OT format. This means that the latest stars in the league hold the overtime scoring record, not the retired stars.
One of the all-time leaders in OT points is Chicago Blackhawks legend Patrick Kane who ranks third with 40 (35 with the Blackhawks). He trails only Sidney Crosby (46) and Evgeni Malkin (43), but these two Edmonton Oilers stars are now tied with Kane.
Another overtime win this season ended with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, both of whom scored 40 OT points in their careers. Alex Ovechkin also has 40 in his career.

Kane is late in his career, but many of the Blackhawks’ overtime wins came off his stick or were set up by one of the team’s all-time stars. He is no longer in Chicago, but he did a lot of damage to the Blackhawks during his time helping the team to stay in control for a long time.
Another Blackhawks legend, Jonathan Toews, ended his time with Chicago with 30 overtime points. Seth Jones has the most OT points among current Blackhawks players with seven and Philipp Kurashev is just behind him with five. Connor Bedard, with two OT points, still has a long way to go, but he will get better and the team will win more games.
