Former Red Wing Tyler Bertuzzi in Hot Water

Watch out.

While the Detroit Red Wings lacked fire in their second straight loss to the Montreal Canadiens, the former Red Wings player showed more fire than was necessary. Despite scoring the opening goal, they ended up losing to the Canadiens for the second time in two days. Last night they lost 5-1.

Otherwise, another former Red Wings player is doing everything he can to help his team win. The Chicago Blackhawks fell 6-4 to the Calgary Flames, but not for a lack of effort from one Tyler Bertuzzi.

The Flames were leading 5-1 going into the third period, and that’s when Bertuzzi came alive. He scored the team’s first two goals in the final frame. The first came within a minute of the start.

After that, Ilya Mikheyev brought the Blackhawks within one goal. And then things started to get out of hand.

Martin Pospisil hit Bertuzzi in the head in front of the Flames net after the whistle late in the third period. Jonathan Huberdeau came and took Bertuzzi’s hat off. He made an exception to that and clipped the back of Huberdeau’s leg as he broke free.

When the smoke cleared, Bertuzzi left the dispute with a heavy penalty against Pospisil, a penalty for hitting Huberdeau, and a 10-minute misconduct.

The slash seemed like an overreaction. Given this, I believe that Bertuzzi will probably be fined for this incident.

Maybe the Red Wings can learn from this and come out with some kind of fire against the St. Louis Blues Monday night.
