Britain’s Harriet Dart and Heather Watson made it through to the second round of Australian Open qualifying, but Dan Evans was knocked out.
Third seed Dart, recently out of the world’s top 100, beat Australian wildcard Lizette Cabrera 6-2 7-6 (7-5) in Melbourne.
Watson claimed a hard-fought 7-5 6-7 (14-16) 6-2 win against Lola Radivojevic of Serbia.
But there was disappointment for England men’s number five Evans, who lost 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to Japan’s James Trotter.
Billy Harris, who has never reached the main draw of the Australian Open, will face Yuta Shimizu of Japan in the first round of qualifying on Monday night.
Dart will play another Australian in Taylah Preston in the next round on Tuesday, while Watson will play American veteran Varvara Lepchenko.
England’s Katie Boulter, Emma Raducanu, Sonay Kartal, Jodie Burrage, Jack Draper, Cameron Norrie and Jacob Fearnley are all eligible for direct entry into the main draw of the first major of 2025.
